Execution inmate takes 34 minutes

Execution of a Florida inmate takes 34 minutes.

South Africa to ban hunting of animals. The hunting of lions and other big cats, bred in captivity purely to die at the barrel of a gun, will be outlawed under legislation that comes into force next year, the South African government said Wednesday.

Duck Die-Off in Idaho Sparks Fears. More than 1,000 mallard ducks have died in a bizarre cluster along a southeastern Idaho creek bed, puzzling wildlife agencies. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, were testing tissue samples Wednesday, hoping to rule out an avian flu outbreak.

Those were the headlines for today. I'm a citizen from a country which is against the death penalty, and I myself am very much against it as well. There are as for as I'm concerned 2 kinds of death penalties in the world, the first one being the kind of: a judge sentence you to death, your lawyers appeal, you loose the appeal, and get executed within a sensable timeframe. (Which is not funny for you, but at least you know what to expect). And then you have the death sentence the U.S. hands out to its killers: you are sentenced to death, spend 15, 20 or more years on death row, in the mean time you start to appeal, and no one wants to listen to you anyway, and then you are executed for something that happened a long, long, time ago. That is not human. That is very, very cruel. Did any murderer wait 20 years to kill his victim? No, I don't think so. If you want to execute someone, do so. But don't let any person, no matter what he/she has done, spend years and years in fear of the execution which might or might not come any day soon.

But, as usual, I don't care what ever you, as long as you don't forget to love a soldier. Love, Jenifer. bloomjenifer@yahoo.co.uk.

I am intrigued that you seem to source your news items from the popular mainstream media sources, and possibly due to limited research time, your perspective is narrow and limited as these sources. As a consequence your items although interesting, in my judgment clearly are not providing the full perspective of the circumstances of situation.

I quickly looked at the Amnesty international website and discovered some information in regard to capital punishment.

“In Saudi Arabia, people have been taken from their prison cells and executed without knowing that a death sentence has been passed against them. Others have been tried and sentenced to death in a language they didn't speak or read.”

“In many countries, inhumane procedures often exacerbate the inherent cruelty of being on death row. For example, in Belarus and Uzbekistan neither death row prisoners nor their relatives are informed of the date of the execution in advance, denying them a last chance to say goodbye. The body of the prisoner is not given to relatives for burial and they are not informed of the place of burial.”

Clearly the USA is not the worst country in the world to be on death row. This contribution of yours Jenifer somehow implies the USA is cruel because it actually has an appeal process, when the facts are that there are criminals on death row in many countries are treated far more cruelly than those in death row the USA.

Another reality is, generally the people sentenced to death may have to wait possibly on long time the USA to be executed, however this is never as long as the or probably as painful for the families of those who have had their loved ones taken away.”. Your Blog implies that you have more sympathy for the killers awaiting there fate, than the families who have had there loved ones killed perhaps cruelly. I am quite sure that you do have sympathy for a bereaved family member but you do not say so.

Jenifer, again you have some very interesting and very compelling arguments but again I see that you are only taking a small chuck of the total picture, to come to your conclusions.

Keep you interesting pages coming!

Take care and choose to be happy!
